The Hermit

The elders in the village told each other that there was an elder who was well-versed in astronomy, mastered the knowledge of magic, could cure diseases, and communicated with the spirit world. That elder was very old this year, but he was still on a lonely journey to find the truth of the universe. Those who had met him said that he held the power of time in his hands, because the rotation of the stars was hidden in his heart. His people passed these magical arts from generation to generation, not as a means to manipulate outsiders but as a way to survive in the harsh nature. And he, the hermit, meditated on the top of a high mountain. But his ears heard all the sounds of the world, because the hermit’s spirit had become extremely pure. The Hermit is the IX card in the major arcana of the Namkha tarot deck.
